The Columbia River Rolls On – Wenatchee Naturalist Stories: Chapter 4

Wenatchee Naturalist, Mara Bohman, artfully combines her curiosity with research acumen, a keen photographer’s eye, and a fluid writing style to explore facets of our Columbia River watershed.   Take a peek at her new website, The Columbia River Rolls On:  Stories and attitudes: past, present and into the future about the mighty Columbia River.

Mara Bohman has earned her Wenatchee Naturalist pin for volunteering 20+hours in support of conservation.

Here’s an excerpt from her website that frames her project:

The Columbia River and Me
This river fascinates and intrigues me. From the first people whose lives were woven into her fabric, through the frenzy of harnessing her waters, and now looking into the future, the Columbia River will prevail. What is our relationship with all she has to offer and how will that change as we go forward into a new day?

Why do I care? Some things cannot be explained. She has a hold on me and won’t let go. The more I learn, the harder it is to turn my back.

The Columbia River, in my opinion, is under appreciated by many. She does not receive the attention and respect that she so rightly deserves. In these pages I will explore, where she has been. I’ll share stories of those who have come to know her and I will try to discover how she is perceived  as we go into the future with this mighty river, the Columbia.

She wants to build a community photo gallery, featuring photos of the Columbia River and its tributaries.  Using humor, she calls it a big opportunity for fame without fortune!  E-mail her your photo, along with a brief 1-2 sentence description about where it was taken.  She plans to credit the volunteer photographers.  Check out Wenatchee Naturalist Leslie Bigo’s recent photo submission, showing ice flows moving down river, taken near the Confluence of the Wenatchee and Columbia Rivers.
